Jill Purdy is a professor in education department at Cedar Crest College.
Since joining the faculty at Cedar Crest in 2005, Jill researched and presented globally on topics in the teaching of English language learners, effective teaching and instructional pedagogy, literacy strategies and mindfulness in the classroom. She teaches many courses both at the undergraduate and graduate levels on reading instruction and instructional pedagogy. Previously, Jill served the Faculty President, Department Chair and the Director of the Education Graduate Program.
Jill taught for over 15 years in public education at the elementary and middle school levels. She also served as a reading specialist in local school districts. After receiving her bachelor’s degree, Jill began teaching in fifth grade in the Easton School District. Shortly after obtaining her master’s, Jill moved to a middle level teaching position at Southern Lehigh School District, where she taught English, Reading and Social Studies. Jill’s next position was as a Reading Specialist at Salisbury Middle School.
Jill holds an Ed.D from Widener University in Reading and Language Arts.
