As a Cedar Crest theatre major, we see you enhancing your skills and knowledge both in the classroom and in the theatre. Each year, the department presents four major stage productions, which you may take part in from your first year here at Cedar Crest. Productions include dramatic and comedic performances and musicals in the 250-seat Samuels Theatre.

Cedar Crest recognizes that adult students have a lot of responsibilities. That’s why we’ve designed our theater program to be able to be taken through evening classes so you can more easily work on your education with your schedule.

Each term, students from all majors and disciplines participate in all campus productions in some capacity, in roles including cast member, stage crew, box office, scene shop, costume construction and stage management.

Major productions are strategically planned to correspond with classroom instruction, allowing students to immediately put their classroom knowledge into practice on stage. Shows are also picked to reflect the college’s strategic initiatives and are carefully selected to include strong roles for women. Auditions are open to all students regardless of major.

You will develop a professional digital portfolio over the course of several terms.

Towards the end of this program, you’ll submit a proposal for your thesis project and then showcase it in your final year. This showcase provides you with the opportunity to present and demonstrate your original and unique creative process, while also offering you the experience of expressing your ideas to a larger audience.

Coming to Cedar Crest with some previous credits under your belt? We see how hard you worked for your previous credits, so that’s why we’ve developed a generous transfer credit policy. Our transfer counselors will help you make sure you can finish strong.

Theatre at Cedar Crest offers you:

  • The opportunity to audition and participate in major productions starting your first year
  • Hands-on experience in all aspects of a theatre production
  • The opportunity to present and express your creativity in front of peers, faculty and the public
  • Instruction by knowledgeable and experienced faculty members
  • The flexibility to explore multiple areas of interest, including minors and dual majors

This program is also available as a minor.
