Cedar Crest College announced Katherine Ann Franzone of Mt. Bethel, Pa. as the winner of a four-year, full-tuition scholarship. Franzone competed against dozens of high school students at the 11th Annual Scholarship Competition Day held on February 22, 2020.
Franzone was among more than 150 high school students from 10 different states that took a three-hour exam covering the arts, mathematics, science, writing and the humanities during the campus event. The top 25 finishers were recognized that day, with Franzone and four other finalists moving on to the interview portion of the competition. In May, Cedar Crest President Elizabeth M. Meadecalled Franzone to tell her she had been named the winner.
“I was deciding between several schools, but what really drew me to making my final decision to go to Cedar Crest was the welcoming and enthusiastic learning environment I saw there,” said Franzone.
Franzone graduated this spring from the Pennsylvania Cyber Charter School. She participated in the National Honor Society, was vice president of the Student Council, president of French Club and involved in the Science Club. In her free time, Franzone enjoys playing tennis, reading and learning new things. At Cedar Crest College she is planning to study biochemistry and participate in student research opportunities.
The annual Scholarship Day Competition invites high-achieving prospective students and their families to campus to compete and discover the many opportunities available at Cedar Crest that empower future leaders through scholarship, global connectivity, wellness and service.
