Science will take center stage at Cedar Crest College this week for the 38th Biology Olympics. The event will be held this Friday, April 14, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Oberkotter Center for Health and Wellness.
Teams of students from nine local high schools will participate in the Biology Olympics. The competition will include the following events:
- Experimental Design: students will develop a written experiment that addresses a biological problem
- Biology Bowl: a competitive question-and-answer game
- Biology Trivia: a pencil and paper test for the entire team
- Individual Events: subject-specific written tests for individual team members, focusing on topics such as molecular biology, cells and neurons, genetics and medical biology
- Scavenger Hunt: an outdoor search for biological items
The events will be happening simultaneously, with the nine teams separated into three groups. The winners will be recognized during an award ceremony at the end of the competition. The Biology Olympics are presented by the Department of Biological Sciences at Cedar Crest College.
Members of the media are encouraged to attend the event. The best opportunity for photos and video will be during the award ceremony, which begins at 1:30 p.m. and runs until 2 p.m. in Oberkotter 1.
