The campus hosts six gallery shows each year, as well as a variety of student exhibitions throughout the year
The gallery system at Cedar Crest College contributes to the cultural quality and overall experience of all of our students and faculty. Our gallery exhibitions enliven the campus, displaying works by local artists with roots and connections in the community, as well as nationally known artists. As a factor in each student’s liberal arts experience, the gallery system becomes a vehicle for inspiring dialogue across academic disciplines. It also serves the community, as the viewing of exhibits is open to all—College and community members alike.
The mission of the campus galleries is to present exhibitions that introduce our community to innovative ideas and timely concepts about the practice of making art. Our exhibition programming leans toward contemporary art that directly relates to the art major curriculum.
The art department oversees multiple exhibition spaces throughout the campus. The activities in these galleries are intimately woven into the fabric of the art department, bringing the work of artists with local, national and international exhibition records to campus, as well as hosting artists and critics as guest lecturers. These visiting artists also interact with students in group critiques and studio workshops. Cedar Crest’s registered arboretum also serves as a site for rotating outdoor sculpture exhibits. Here are the galleries currently on campus.
