Cedar Crest College to host picture book author Katey Howes for lecture and book reading.
Award-winning picture book author Katey Howes will be coming to Cedar Crest College for a lecture and book reading centered on the topic of bodily autonomy. The event will be held on Wednesday, April 12, 2023, at 4 p.m. at the Tompkins College Center.
Howes is the author of the acclaimed picture book, “Rissy, No Kissies,” which helps readers navigate body boundaries with empathy, respect, and sensitivity. During the event, Katey will engage in a conversation about bodily autonomy, respecting others’ choices, needs, or preferences, and what consent looks and sounds like.
The event is hosted by Cedar Crest College’s Education Department, Cressman Library, and the Center for Diversity & Inclusion, and is funded through the IDEA Grant #SayWhatYouNeed.
“The Education Department is thrilled to host Katey Howes as our first, in-person author. Katey’s passion and advocacy for finding our voices, whether it is a voice in setting personal boundaries, or our understanding and acceptance of the boundaries others need to establish, fosters important conversations. As educators, this is the good work we do: provide opportunities for our students to find their voices and stand in their truth. Our conversation with Katey will support the adults who care and work with children and young adults.” – Melissa Kamyab, Ed.D., director of education graduate programs and assistant professor in education
Let’s Play Books, an independent bookstore located in Emmaus, will have all of Howes’ books available for purchase, and Howes will be available to sign books at the conclusion of the event.
The event is free and open to the public, but registration is required.
