“I felt empowered the first time I stepped on Cedar Crest’s campus,” says Amaiya Kavachery, recipient of Cedar Crest College’s four-year, full-tuition scholarship. “I could see right away that Cedar Crest uses its voice and encourages students to do the same.”
Kavachery, a senior at Lehigh Career & Technical Institute (LCTI), received the exciting scholarship news on Tuesday, April 9, at a surprise reveal on LCTI’s campus. President Elizabeth M. Meade, Cedar Crest admissions counselors, and Franki the Falcon presented her with flowers, balloons, and the life-changing scholarship.
She plans to dual major in Secondary Education and English at Cedar Crest, with the goal of one day teaching English language learners. Beyond academics, Kavachery hopes to become involved in the campus community and participate in track or cross country.
Kavachery competed alongside approximately 33 other local students in this year’s Scholarship Competition, which followed an “In the Valley, For the Valley” philosophy – putting the spotlight exclusively on Lehigh Valley students. More than a dozen applicants will also be awarded partial tuition scholarships.
“It was extremely emotional learning I won the full-tuition scholarship,” says Kavachery. “In that moment, all I could think about was telling my family. They know how much of a hard worker I am.”
