Approximately 40 Lehigh Valley Students Will participate in the Annual Scholarship Competition at Cedar Crest College
One talented and deserving Lehigh Valley high school senior will win a full-tuition scholarship this weekend at Cedar Crest College’s annual Scholarship Competition Day on Saturday, February 24, 2024.
The newly reimagined Scholarship Competition is not just about recognizing academic achievements — it’s about celebrating the distinctive potential of each student. Cedar Crest has replaced the rigorous testing segment of previous competitions with personal interviews and hands-on activities designed to showcase individual talents and abilities. The event aligns with the College’s decision to continue its test-optional admissions policy, which is supported by research indicating that standardized tests are not reliable indicators of student success.
This year’s Competition embraces an “In the Valley, For the Valley” philosophy, putting the spotlight exclusively on Lehigh Valley students. Approximately forty local students, nominated by their school guidance counselors and teachers will be participating in the event.
One student will be granted a full-tuition scholarship for the entirety of their four-years at Cedar Crest College. Other students will also receive various prizes in addition to the academic scholarships they’ve already earned: four students will receive $2,000 annually for four years, five students will be awarded $1,600 per year for four years, fifteen students will receive $1,000 annually for four years, and another fifteen students will be granted $500 per year for the duration of their four-year studies.
The day will include optional activities for parents and families, including FAFSA Filing Workshops, campus tours and a dynamic presentation about the college’s award-winning Sophomore Expedition, a guaranteed study-abroad experience offered at no additional cost to students
