<description>Cedar Crest College senior Andrea Hargrove won the first-ever RecycleMania recycled art competition this week with an interesting piece that included an old pair of crocs shoes decorated with flowers made out of Wild Cherry Pepsi aluminum cans and shards of glass from broken bottles. The English major said she created the art piece as something new to do and as a way to relieve stress.</description>

<description>Allen Richardson, Ph.D., professor of religious studies, and several members of the Cedar Crest College contingent that journeyed to Egypt last month during the semester break will host a program titled, “Remembering Egypt,” this Monday, Feb. 22, from noon to 1 p.m. in the Tompkins College Center 1867 Room. During the program, the hosts will share photos and stories of their journey, which included stops at Abu Simbel to visit the Temple of Ramses II; Luxor to see the Valley of Kings and Valley of Queens, where they went inside King Tut’s tomb; Giza, to visit the largest of the Egyptian pyramids; and Cairo, where they visited the ancient Khan el-Khalili marketplace and experienced the Middle Eastern tradition of negotiating for goods and services. In addition, they took a three-day cruise down the Nile River.</description>

<description>As part of the continuing RecycleMania program on campus, local recycled art sculptor Virginia Abbott will discuss her work on Wednesday, February 3, from 7:00-9:00 p.m. in Harmon Hall. Abbott, a graduate of York Academy of Arts, creates small-scale sculptures out of cast paper that resemble bronze sculptures. She has earned numerous honors for her work, including the NSS’s Youth Award, Gloria Medal and Ben Franklin Award, as well as the prestigious Malvina Hoffman Bronze Horses Head Award from the Catharine Lorillard Wolfe Art Club in New York City. In addition to the talk about recycled art, Abbott will provide a demonstration on how to make recycled art using paper egg cartons. A reception with refreshments will follow the presentation. </description>

<description>Cedar Crest College will compete in the 2010 edition of RecycleMania, a program held from Jan. 17 through March 27 that pits colleges and universities across the United States against each other to see which can recycle the most on a per student basis. Colleges and universities track the amount of recycling they produce weekly and enter the results into a spreadsheet on the RecycleMania web site, and overall winners will be announced after final results are tabulated.   </description>

<description>English Professor Carolyn Segal’s classic essay on students and their colorful excuses for missed homework assignments, “The Dog Ate My Disk and other Tales of Academic Woe,” which was originally published in the Chronicle of Higher Education is 2000, has recently been reprinted in a pair of Bedford/Saint Martin’s Press composition anthologies. These include the recently released fifth edition of Real Writing with Readings: Paragraphs and Essays for College, Work and Everyday Life, where it will appear for the first time, and a repeat printing in the third edition of Making Sense: A Real-World Rhetorical Reader, which will be available in February. It has also been selected for publication for the first time in the second edition of Focus on Writing: Paragraphs and Essays, which is slated for release later this year. </description>
